Playoff Loss
Matthew finished T19th at Sherry Golf in Jerez, Spain at 2nd stage European Tour Q-School. He was -3 for the tournament shooting rounds off 71,72,72,70. There were only 19 spots available at Sherry Golf. The final day saw a thick fog prolong play for two and a half hours from the scheduled 9 am first tee off.
As a result of the late start Matthew had to go into a seven man playoff for the last spot the next morning. Lloyd Saltman from Scotland made birdie on the 10th hole the first hole of the playoff to take the final spot for last stage.

Matthew Moves To Stage 2
Last week Matthew played at the Fleesensee G&CC in Germany for stage one of European Tour qualifying. He shot rounds of 72,68,71,70 to finish in a tie for 27th. The top 30 and ties moved on to the second stage.
"I played steady golf all week. There was some low socring this event I think two players shot 62. I made one bad swing on hole 10 in my first round that cost me some shots but to go -10 from that point on and grab one of the spots was nice.".
Stage 2 venues will be released on October 15th.

Challenge Tour Schedule is Now up
The 2008 Challenge Tour Schedule is now posted on the European Tours home page. Matthew is in Orlando, Florida until mid March working on his game. Matthew plans to skip the first four tournaments of the New Year waiting for the Tour to come back to Europe before he makes his first start of the 2008 calendar year. Matthew sits in 45th position on the 2008 order of merit after playing the first two events of the 2008 schedule in Argentina back in December.

4th, 5th, and 10th
Matthew’s final tournament on the 2007 Nordic League finished up this past weekend in Denmark. Matthew finished in a tie for 29th with rounds of 72,70,68. With the Nordic League coming to an end Matthew found himself in a solid 5th place with the top five players receiving Challenge Tour cards for the 2008 season. “One of the big reasons I liked the idea of coming to Europe and playing professional golf was that if you have a good season you are rewarded and move up to the next tour, where as back in North America there are not opportunities to move up you have to get through Q-School.” Matthew finishes the year 10th on the Telia Tour (Swedish Tour) ranking, and 4th on the Scanplan Tour (Danish Tour) ranking with a win in Denmark that got him into the European Tours Scandinavian Masters, a solo 2nd in the Husqvarna Open in Sweden, and a tie for 3rd earlier this month at the Tour Golf Open in Sweden that was a co-sanctioned event between the Telia Tour and Scanplan Tour. Matthew only missed three cuts in 17 starts, and had two starts on the Challenge Tour and one on the European Tour this season.
Matthew’s next event is stage two of European Tour Qualifying School in Spain. He will be playing the course PGA Golf de Catalunya from Nov. 7-10. There will be 83 players at each of four different courses with around 18 players from each course moving on to the third and final stage Nov. 15-20 at The San Roque Club in the south of Spain. “The goal is the European Tour, but knowing you have a job playing on the Challenge Tour next year you can go to Spain and just play your own game.”

Season over in Sweden
Matthew just played his last tournament on the Telia Tour this past weekend and with rounds of 72,75,69,67 he finished T3rd. The Tour Golf Open was a co-sanctioned event between the Telia Tour and the Scanplan Tour played at Rönnebäcks Golf Club in Malmö Sweden. The weather was less than perfect with winds from 10 – 15 meters per second, rain off and on all week and a chilling temperature not getting over 15 degrees. “I played steady the first two rounds but my game didn’t really feel the best, but on the weekend the weather was brutal and I just played real smart golf and only made one bogie in my last two rounds. I was real relaxed this weekend and even with the bad weather I still had fun out there.” With this 3rd place finish Matthew jumped up from 12th to 10th spot where he will finish the year on the Telia Tour ranking. Because this was a co-sanctioned event with the Scanplan Tour Matthew moved up two spots from 4th to 2nd on the ranking where he has only played in three events on the Scanplan Tour and two of them being co-sanctioned with the Telia Tour. There are two tournaments left on the Nordic League with the final event being the Unibake Masters that is the last Nordic League major of the year. Matthew stayed in 5th position after this week but got some valuable points with only two tournaments left. Matthew will take this week off to prepare for the final event. This will not be the last event for Matthew this year as he will head to Spain in November for the second stage of European qualifying school that takes place Nov. 7th-10th.

2007-08-25
Exempt Through 1st Stage
As of August 22nd Matthew was 4th on the Nordic League with the top 5 players receiving an exemption through the first stage of European Tour Qualifying School. The 2nd stage will be held on four different courses in Spain from November 7-10. Matthew only has four tournaments left on his schedule that count towards the Nordic League, where the top 5 players after the Unibake Masters will receive Challenge Tour Cards for 2008. The next two weeks Matthew is playing on the Challenge Tour in the Ecco Tour Championship and the Telia Challenge.

Exempt into Scandinavian Masters!
Matthew won the Willis Masters this past weekend on the Scanplan Tour (Danish Tour) with rounds of 73,68,65 for a three day total of 206 (-7). Matthew’s final round of 65 was bogey free and included 6 birdies and 12 pars. “I needed to play mistake free golf the last day to put the pressure on the leader. I was five shots back going into the last day and thought I would need to get to -9 to win but -7 turned out to be good enough.” By wining the Willis Masters Matthew received a wild card into the European Tours Scandinavian Masters August 16-19. This week Matthew is playing the PGA Landman Open on the Telia Tour (Swedish Tour) August 9-11. “My game feels good and so does my body so playing five tournaments in a row is not a big deal.” With the win this past weekend Matthew moves up seven spots on the Nordic League ranking from 10th to 3rd and sits 4th on the Scanplan Tour order of merit after only playing two events that count towards the Scanplan ranking. There has been no movement on the Telia Tour ranking and Matthew remains 9th.

2007-07-31
T16th in Latvia
Matthew’s steady play of 71,71,72 earned him a tie for sixteenth place this past week in Riga Latvia. “There is not much to talk about for this tournament, I played good solid golf but could not find the speed on the greens to really make a run for the leaders. I didn’t putt badly but you need the fifteen footers to go in regularly if you want to be up at the top of the leader board on Sunday.” Matthew dropped two places on the Telia Tour ranking from 7th to 9th and finds himself 10th on the Nordic League ranking. Matthew’s next tournament is in Denmark and starts this Friday August 3rd. The Phresh Birdie Challenges are over for this year and the three winners are, May- Fredrik Jansson 25 birdies, June- Alana Bliss 29 birdies, and July- Christoffer Karlsson 17 birdies.

Rain Shortened Event
The first round of the Skåne Open was canceled because of to much rain. The course was unplayable with most tees and greens underwater. The first round of competition started on Saturday where the Tournament Director shortened the 4th hole from a par 4 into a par 3, and number 14 a par three was unplayable still due to the water so all players in the field received a par for that hole. There was no cut this event because it was shortened to 36 holes. Matthew shot a four over 74 in the rain in round one, and followed it up with a two over 72 in the final round to finish T41. “I hit the ball well this week for 33 of the 36 holes. I said to myself at the start of the tournament to stay patient because the weather was rainy and very windy especially in round two, but I had two triples on my card this week and because it was only 36 holes you just don’t have that many holes to get big mistakes like that back. I am happy with my second round I played well and had one of the lower scores on the day.”

2007-07-03
Last Phresh Birdie Challenge of the year
Only two more days to enter the July Phresh Birdie Challenge. Matthew only has two tournaments in July the first starts this Friday July 6th in Landskrona Sweden. The second and last tournament in July is the Hansabanka Baltic Open in Latvia. Both tournaments are Nordic League Majors with a cut after 36 holes.

2007-06-18
Solo 2nd
Matthew shot 65 in the last round of the Husqvarna Open to end up -8 and in 2nd place for the week. With rounds of 69, 68 heading into Sunday Matthew was in a 10th place tie. Matthew shot up the leader board on the back nine with a birdie eagle birdie stretch from the 12th to 14th. “I was playing really solid golf all week and during my second round I made three straight birdies, so I felt like I just needed something to go in then I could get on a little run. I lipped out on 10 and had a great chance on 11 that was right on line but I just left it short, on 12 I had about a eight foot little chip shot that I made and that got me going. I bombed a drive on 13 and hit six iron to 15 feet and made eagle.” Matthew jumped up the Telia Tour ranking from 32nd to 7th on the order of merit and Moved into 4th spot on the Nordic League ranking. “There is a lot of golf yet to be played this season but with a good finish this week now I am up in the mix on the Nordic League ranking and have to look at my schedule and see what is the best way to stay up near the top.” At the end of the season the top five players on the Nordic League receive full European Challenge Tour cards for 2008. Matthew’s next event will be Seriespel where he plays on a team that represents Falkenbergs GK. The format is the same as the Ryder Cup best ball, foursome, and stroke play the tournament starts on June 29th where he will play 36 holes and then the final 18 on June 30th. There are two tournaments during the year and the second one takes place July 20-21. Falkenbergs guys team is currently in Div.2 and need to finish in the top two teams after both events to move up to Div.1.

Tied for 15th
Matthew played well in the first Nordic Leauge Major in Sweden. The course was in fantastic shape with fast greens and hard dry conditions. The weather couldn’t be any hotter with tempatures close to 30 degrees every day. “I have been playing well for the last few weeks and finally got on a course with good fast greens that I am use to back in North America. I didn’t putt great but if you made a good stroke it was in the hole, and we don’t get to play many courses like that during the year, so it was nice.” Matthew entered the final round T13th at even par for the tournament but dropped two shots the last day to finish T15th. “ I felt great going into the last day and my putter was coming around I just had to get close to some pins. I started well with three birdies in my first four holes, but didn’t hit enough club into #5 and three putted from 50ft. I got away from my game plan for about four holes in the middle of my round and that was the difference between a potential third place finish.”
Matthew heads to Jönköping for the second Nordic Leauge Major in as many weeks on Wednesday. You can follow live scoring by clicking on the Telia Tour link on Matthew’s home page.

Bad Break
Matthew came up one shot short of making the cut this week at the Kinnaborg Open with rounds of 69, 74.
“I felt good about my game this week, I hit the ball well and had a lot of good birdie opportunities but nothing fell. I was disappointed to finish the way I did and miss the cut by one. It was the wrong feeling to end the tournament on after playing well for two days, but that’s golf.”
Matthew made a triple bogey on the 18th in his second round to finish three over par for the tournament and miss the plus two cut by one.

Little Adjustment
The weather for the first round of the Gambro Open was great for scoring. Matthew put a new set of irons into play for the start of the tournament, but despite the good weather Matthew shot 74 in round one. “I just didn’t feel comfortable with my swing using the new clubs, at the top of my swing they felt really light and I lost my tempo”. Matthew put his old irons back in the bag for the rest of the tournament and finished with rounds of 68, 71 to tie for 31st. “It’s early in the year for me only playing two tournaments so far. I am still making little mistakes that I don’t make in the middle of the season but the last two days felt really solid and I played well”. Matthew tee’s it up in a Swedish mini tour even this weekend for his third of six straight tournament weeks.

2007-05-14
Windy Cold and Rainy
Matthew finished with 14 points and a 20th place finish. Matthew made the 36 hole cut on the number, “I didn’t know what the cut line was and never thought about it all day. The weather was really bad my back nine and I made a lot of really good up and downs to scrap out 2 points”. The cut was low 30 players and ties. Matthew was the first ball out on Sunday and got off to a good start with birdie on the first hole on his way to a three under par round and 9 points.
Matthew’s next tournament starts this Wednesday as the 2nd tournament of the Telia Tour kicks off at Lunds Akademiska.

Summer in Sweden
Matthew’s 2007 schedule is complete up until the end of August. He will play a full schedule during the summer only in Sweden where Matthew has full exempt status on the Telia Tour. Matthew plans to move back to North America in September and attend PGA Tour qualifying in the fall. “I have always wanted to play in the USA ever since I left college but I knew I needed to find a way to get better than just playing in Canada.” He will start his second season on the Swedish Tour in May at the St Ibb Open, where there is a limited field with good money up for grabs. “I am only going to play in Sweden this summer and not travel to all the other Nordic countries so that I can just focus on my game and stay fresh for the fall.”

73 today
Matthew shot one over today and is now tied for 63rd. A low round tomorrow is needed to make it to third stage. “I feel good about the way I play, but the last two days I have been struggling with my driver. When you don’t hit the fairways, like I did the first day, this course is way harder." Matthew tees off at 10.20 a.m. tomorrow.

2006-11-02
Three over today
Matthew shot 75 today and is tied for 50th with two days left to play. The score wasn’t as good as yesterday, but he is still three under par after two days. There is one more day before the cut, and Matthew is teeing off at 9.20 a.m. tomorrow.

2006-11-01
Tied for 3rd after the first day
Matthew had a solid first day at European Tour Qualifying. He shot 66 and is currently tied for 3rd. "My game is feeling good at the moment, and I’m happy with the way I played today. I hit 17 greens and putted well."
Matthew’s tees off at 11:10 a.m. tomorrow, and I’m sure we are all following him with excitement.

Just short!
Matthew ended the 2006 season on the Telia Tour without the bang he was looking for at the Tour Golf Masters. “The first round I just couldn’t find the fairway. I was working on a new grip early this week and it felt great but I had not used it in a tournament yet. I went back to my old grip and shot a good last round but came up a little short.” Matthew shot rounds of 78,70 and missed the +3 cut line by one shot. That saw Matthew’s consecutive cuts come to an end at 10. Even though Matthew didn’t make the cut he still finished the year inside the top 50 on the order of merit at number 46. “My goal was never to finish inside the top 50, even though it is nice, it was to qualify for the European Tour.” Although the Telia Tour comes to an end Matthew’s season does not. He heads to Denmark for the last tournament on the Scanplane Tour next week and then leaves for Spain for the final two stages of European qualifying at the end of the month.

2006-09-23
Top 25 After Rough Week
After arriving very late Friday from Stockholm, where Matthew had a 5th place showing at first stage of European Tour Qualifying, he headed back up to Stockholm early Tuesday morning for the Swedish International. ”I put so much focus into last week that I really had no gas left in the tank for this week.” The course set up well for Matthew where the winning score was one over par with fast greens and windy conditions the first two days. “I liked the course right away when I first saw it, and I played well most of the tournament but hit a hand full of bad shots this week and they led to big numbers.” Despite two double bogies and two triple bogies Matthew still finished T25th. Matthew heads to Rönnebäck in Sweden this week to play the Tour Golf Masters where the field will combine both the Telia Tour and the Scanplane Tour for the largest prize purse of the year.

2006-09-16
One Down Two To Go!
Section A of first stage European Tour Qualifying was held at Arlandastad Golf Course in Sweden. After three solid rounds of 70 Matthew found himself playing in the final group heading into the last day. Matthew continued his solid play on the last day, but in the end came up three shots short with a round of 73. A 5th place finish easily moved him on to the second stage in Spain.
“The golf course was playing very difficult this week with fast greens and heavy rough. I didn’t hit the ball that well off the tee this week and when you miss a fairway you most likely miss the green. My putter was solid this week and when you putt well the game feels easy.”
The scores showed that this golf course was the most difficult out of the first stage sites. It looks like it will be a good test for the players when the European Tour heads there for the Scandinavian Masters in 2007.

2006-08-19
Top 3 at PGA Mästerskapet
Matthew Bliss had a solid week with three rounds under par. 71, 70 put him tied for 11th before the final round, and the last day he only played 2 holes before they blew the horn for a rain delay. After sitting in the clubhouse with the other players for two hours they finally headed back out on the course and resumed play at 14:00. Matthew played really well the final round, and with a score of 70 he ended up tied for 3rd.
-“- I was very happy with the way I played and felt out there this week, and having Caroline’s brother Linus as my caddie helped me out, especially the last day when it was bad weather. I hit a lot of greens this week, and putted well. But the greens were tuff with tricky pins and not enough puts fell in to go the distance this week.”
The top 10 finish jumped Matthew from 68th to 40th on the ranking list and also gave him a spot in the next week’s match play tournament in Stockholm. But he decided to stick to his schedule and take a week off.
“- It has been many weeks of playing now, and I need a week of to relax, work on my game and recharge my batteries because now my focus is on the European Tour Qualifying in September.”

Hard Course Makes Players Pay!
Frösåker GK was a challange for all the golfers. It was the highest winning result of the year, and according to all the players it was a tuff week. Matthew played well the first day, and was 4th with a round of 70. The second day was not as successful, but he made the cut and was tied for 29th. The last day he played well but two balls in the water on the par four 15th took the wind out of him and he ended up tied 48th on the tournament.
“- I was happy with the way I hit the ball most of the week, but the last two rounds I just couldn't put it together. This was one of the hardest courses I have played with pot bunkers and a lot of water. The wind never let up the last two days, but that’s what I wanted. I didn’t hit many fairways the 2nd and 3rd round and that made it even harder. But I just have to take the good parts from the tournament with me into this week.”
Matthew is heading to Haverdal GK this week to play another Telia Tour event, and then he has a week off.

Back in Sweden
Matthew Bliss just arrived back in Sweden again on Monday night after spending almost a week in Latvia. The Hansabanka Baltic Open was one of the bigger tournaments on Telia Tour this year. The game was up and down and here in Sweden we were all following him with excitement. He shot rounds of 70,72 to end up making the cut, but with a score of 74 the last day he finished up tied 48th.
- “I was not completely satisfied with my result; my swing wasn't there until the last nine holes. Although I have to say it was an experience and I learned a lot.”
This weekend is the club championship at Falkenbergs Golfklubb, and on Monday Matthew is invited to compete in Johan Edfors Pro Am event at Hills Golfklubb in Gothenburg.
